Getting started

What is FlyStandby?

FlyStandby is a planning tool — available on the web and as a native iOS app — that helps airline employees and other flexible travellers gauge their chances of getting on a standby flight. It is not a booking site.

Who is it for?

Mainly airline employees, retirees, and their eligible companions travelling on staff or buddy passes. Anyone with a flexible itinerary can use the public flight search; the load-data features (asking verified airline staff what the cabin loads look like) are gated to verified employees.

Can I book or list myself for a flight here?

No. FlyStandby is informational only. Listings, bookings and check-ins must still be done through your airline’s own staff-travel system or the airline’s public website. We are not affiliated with myID Travel or any airline.

Where does the flight data come from?

Schedules and seats-for-sale come from AeroDataBox, which aggregates airline GDS feeds. Actual cabin loads (the number of crew/standby ahead of you and how full a cabin really is) come from verified airline employees who answer load requests inside the app. No third-party feed is perfect for last-minute operational changes — that is exactly why we layer real human input on top.
Section 02

SkyCredits

What are SkyCredits?

SkyCredits are the in-app currency that pays for the actions which cost us money to provide — load requests, flight-status lookups, route searches, and extra trips or journeys above the free quota. Full breakdown on the SkyCredits page.

What does each feature cost?

  • Load request — 200 SkyCredits (refunded if no one answers).
  • Flight Status lookup — 20 SkyCredits.
  • Route Explorer search — 20 SkyCredits.
  • Trip — free for the first 3, then 100 SkyCredits each.
  • Journey — free for the first 1, then 400 SkyCredits each.
  • Flight search — always free, unlimited.

How do I get more SkyCredits?

Buy a SkyCredits pack inside the app, or unlock unlimited usage with a Pro or Max subscription. New accounts also receive welcome SkyCredits at signup, an additional bonus when employee verification is approved, and referral rewards (1,200 to you and 1,200 to your friend on their first purchase).

Are SkyCredits refundable?

SkyCredits spent on a load request are refunded in full if the request expires without being answered. Cancelled requests are not refunded. Purchases of credit packages follow the EU 14-day right of withdrawal where applicable — see the Withdrawal policy.
Section 03

Subscriptions

What’s in Pro and Max?

Pro (from €1.99/month) keeps your 3 free trips and 1 free journey, and adds 1 trip, 1 journey, and 10 combined Route/Flight-Status searches every month. Max (from €4.99/month) gives you unlimited trips, unlimited journeys, unlimited searches, and automatic Platinum loyalty status. Both bill monthly or yearly (yearly is cheaper) and you can cancel at any time.

How do I cancel?

App Store: Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions, or open apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. Web: Profile → Subscription. Cancelling stops the next renewal; the current period stays active until it ends.
Section 04

Load requests

What is a load request?

A load request is a question to verified airline staff: how full is each cabin on this specific flight, and how many standby travellers are listed ahead of me? You spend 200 SkyCredits, the request is sent to verified employees of the operating airline, and they answer with the current cabin loads.

What happens if no one answers?

If your request is still open at the moment the flight departs, it expires automatically and your 200 SkyCredits are returned to your balance. You can also cancel a request manually before departure, but cancelled requests are not refunded.

Who can respond to load requests?

Verified airline employees only. Verification is approved either automatically (if you sign up with your airline email) or by manual review of a document you upload — an employee ID badge, payslip, pilot license, cabin crew attestation, MyIDTravel screenshot showing your airline, or a selfie in uniform. We deliberately do not let unverified users guess at load data.
Section 05

Trips & Journeys

What’s the difference between a Trip and a Journey?

A Trip is a multi-leg flight itinerary with backup options, displayed on an interactive canvas or map. A Journey is the higher-level travel plan around it: hotels, transport, activities, day-by-day timeline. One Journey can contain several Trips. Free accounts get 3 Trips and 1 Journey; subscription plans add monthly allowances or unlimited.

What is Route Explorer?

Route Explorer searches every direct route between two airports on a chosen date — useful when you do not yet know which airline or routing you want. 20 SkyCredits per search; included in Pro (10/month combined with Flight Status) and unlimited on Max.

What is Flight Status?

Flight Status is a live tracker for a specific flight: scheduled vs actual times, delays, gate, aircraft type, terminal. 20 SkyCredits per lookup, free for flights already saved in your trips, included in Pro (10/month combined with Route Explorer) and unlimited on Max.
Section 06

Verification

Why verify my airline employment?

Verification unlocks the ability to contribute load information to the community, plus an immediate 800-SkyCredit bonus on top of the 200 you already received at signup. It also gives you a verified badge on your profile.

How does verification work, and what happens to my photo?

There are three paths. (1) If you sign up with a recognised airline email domain, verification is automatic and instant. (2) Otherwise you upload any one of: an employee ID badge, payslip, pilot license, cabin crew attestation, MyIDTravel screenshot showing your airline, or a selfie in uniform holding a paper with your signup email. A human reviews it within 24–48 hours. You can black out salary, address, or anything else — we only need your name and the airline to be visible. The photo is deleted from our servers immediately after the review decision — we do not retain ID photos. (3) If you start a FlyStandby subscription, your plan verifies you instantly from day one. The 800-credit verification bonus lands separately on your first paid invoice.

How does verification work if I subscribe to a paid plan?

Starting a FlyStandby subscription verifies you instantly. There is no waiting for a paid invoice to get the verified badge. The 800-credit verification bonus is separate: it lands on your first paid invoice. So once you subscribe and confirm your airline, you are verified immediately and can answer load requests — and the credits arrive the moment your first payment processes. Subscription-based verification never requires uploading any ID, photo, or work email.
Section 07

Privacy & account

What data do you collect, and is it safe?

We collect only what is needed to run the Service: your account details, your saved trips and journeys, the load requests you make, and basic device/diagnostic information. The iOS app contains no third-party tracking SDKs and does not collect the Advertising Identifier (IDFA). Full inventory in the Privacy Policy.

Who do you share my data with?

We never sell your data and never share it with data brokers. We do share specific data with the sub-processors strictly needed to deliver the Service — Stripe for payments on the web, Apple for in-app purchases on iOS, our SMTP provider for transactional email, AeroDataBox for flight data, and Hetzner for hosting in Germany. Full list and purposes in the GDPR page.

How do I delete my account?

Go to Profile and use “Delete account” at the bottom. The deletion is immediate: your profile, trips, journeys, load requests and SkyCredits balance are purged. Anonymised payment records may be retained as required by tax law. You can also export all your personal data once every 30 days from the same screen.
Still stuck? Email [email protected] with your account email and a short description. Replies in 24–48 hours. If your question is about how standby travel itself works rather than about FlyStandby, the non-rev travel guide covers the whole system.
